Ahmedabad Film Project along with
Shanti Communication School organised a Panel Discussion on Non-Conventional
Ways of Marketing a Film on October 6th, 2012. Shanti Communication
School readily supports every event and activity like the Panel Discussion with
a whole heart, as it is a great platform for exchange of knowledge.
The
Discussion on Non-Conventional Ways of Marketing a film was chaired by Prof.
Alan D’souza, Dean, Shanti Business School& Shanti Communication School.
The elite members of the Panel were Mr. Sanjay Chakraborty, Associate
Vice-President of Brand Services-Triton Communication, Mr. Hemant Trivedi, Sr.
Professor of Marketing at PDPU, Mr. Vandan Shah, Leading Film Distributor, Mr.
Simren Singh, Exhibitor, who gave their individual views on the Non Conventional
Ways of Marketing a Film.
Prof.
Alan D’souza, Dean Shanti Business School & Shanti Communications School
with his expanse of experience being former Executive Director of Mudra
Communications ltd, former Acting Dean of the Mudra Foundation for
Communication Research &Education(MICORE), and the former Director of the
Goa Institute of Management, started the discussion with a presentation
introducing to the participants of the conventional as well as non-conventional
ways of marketing a film. He chalked out the various traditional most talked
about ways of marketing a film and then went on to explain the no-conventional
ways. It was indeed a very good introduction setting the mood for the
discussion ahead in place!
Mr. Sanjay Chakraborty, Associate
Vice-President of Brand Services-Triton Communication,an
advertising professional with more than two decades of extensive experience in
Sales, Marketing, Communication and Advertising has keen interest lies in
understanding consumer behavior and providing marketing communication
strategies to SME’s (Small & Medium Enterprises), then went onto show the
panelists and participants the variety of non-conventional innovative ways by
which the moviesGhajni, Chronicle and others were marketed, holding the
attention of the participants with his excellent presentation.
Mr. Simren Singh in his
5 years of experience in cinema operations as an Exhibitor has worked with
India's leading multiplexes like Inox, Fun multiplexes and City Gold Cinemas,
explained how moviemakers and producers now concentrate on marketing using even
movie tickets, popcorn cans, etc.
Mr.
Vandan Shah, Leading Film Distributor gave everyone a taste of how innovative
marketing was even when technology hadn’t come in. He talked about movie
posters with red lights attached to eyes of an actress to portray blood
dripping from her eyes. His captive conversation about the olden and newer ways
of non conventional ways of marketing a film gave insight to the young and
brought nostalgia to the others.
Mr.
Hemant Trivedi, Sr. Professor of Marketing at PDPU, also introduced and led the PG Diploma Program in
Retail Communications Management at MICA-AHMEDABAD as Professor of Marketing
concluded the discussion with his unique ideas on the non-conventional ways of
marketing a film, presenting to the participants the unique ways in which movie
makers market their films and also giving perspective towards the production
including marketing budgets.
